Symptoms of Candida

Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, bloating, heartburn, tiredness, or migraines? You might be experiencing an overgrowth of yeast in your body, known as Candida.

What is Candida?

Candida Albicans (candida) is a yeast that exists inside all of us. Normally it presents no problems, but today’s widespread use of antibiotics, contraceptive pills, and steroids, as well as a sugar rich diet, can cause a proliferation of this parasitic yeast.  This can be the root cause of a wide variety of problems such as depression, anxiety, irritability, bloatedness, heartburn, tiredness, allergies, acne, migraine, cystitis, and menstrual problems.

Here is a checklist that might help you determine if you have this overgrown yeast in your gut:

List 1: History of Medications and Pregnancy

1. Have you ever taken antibiotics for an infection for a period of eight weeks or longer, or for short periods four or more times in a year?

2.  Have you ever taken antibiotics for the treatment of acne for a period of a month or more?

3. Have you ever taken steroids such as predisone, cortisone, etc?

4.  Have you ever taken contraceptive pills for a year or more?

5. Have you ever been treated with immunosuppressant medications?

6.  Have you been pregnant more than once?

List 2: History of Major Symptoms

1.  Have you had recurring vaginal yeast infections?

2.  Have you had a history of endometriosis?

3.  Have you had thrush (oral or vaginal) more than once?

4.  Have you ever had athlete’s foot or a fungal infection of the nails or skin?

5.  Do you suffer from allergies?

6.  Do you commonly suffer from abdominal distension, “bloating,” diarrhea, or constipation?

7.  Do you suffer from premenstrual syndrome (fluid retention, irritability, and so on)?

8.  Do you suffer from depression, fatigue, lethargy, poor memory or feelings of “unreality”?

9.  Do you crave sweet foods, bread, or alcohol?

10. Do you suffer from unaccountable aches and swelling in the joints?

11. Do you suffer from impotence or lack of sexual desire?

12. Do you have erratic vision or spots before the eyes?

Symptoms usually worse on damp days; persistent drowsiness; lack of coordination’ headaches; mood swings; loss of balance; rashes’ mucus in stools; belching and gas; bad breath; post nasal drip; nasal itch or congestion; nervous irritability; dry mouth or throat; fluid in the ears; and heartburn and indigestion.

If you answered “yes” to one or more questions in the first section and two or more in the second section, and some of the mentioned symptoms, then Candida may be the problem.
