Cold and Flu Prevention with Vitamin D3

It continues to amaze me that the most developed nation in the world continues to turn a blind eye to the power of nature when it comes to disease prevention. According to this study, vitamin D3 given to school children at a relatively low dose (1200 IU) daily compared to a group of children given a placebo lowered the incidence of Influenza A almost in half! This is not the only study with this conclusion-  there have been several studies each year that reinforce this finding. Dr. Mercola has done a great job discussing these findings.  Yet the US still considers the flu vaccine to be the “gold standard” in flu prevention. Believe me, there is so much more available to effectively prevent the flu and to shorten the duration of the flu should you get it.

Here is my Prevention Recommendation:

Adults over 120 pounds:        

Take 5,000 IU vitamin D3 daily AND make sure to go outside for at least 20-30 minutes every day.

Take an immune formula containing astragalus, reishi mushroom, and vitamin C

Children under 120 pounds:  

Take 1,000 IU vitamin D3 daily AND make sure to go outside for at least 20-30 minutes every day.
